Adv. Barney Esterhuyzen (B.Com LLB)

Chairman

Studied Law, Accountancy, Tax, Financial Management and Economics at University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. Achieved B.Com (1980 Stell) LLB (1982 Stell) degrees and enrolled as Advocate. Entrepreneur from an early age founded various businesses. Chief Executive Officer of various international businesses listed on the JSE and international stock exchanges. Currently CEO of private equity groups focusing on investing in healthcare in Africa. Founder member of MediCoop CFI and chairman of the steering committee. Barney is based in the Western Cape.

Mr. Fritz Luttich [MBA (Stell), Bsc (Agric)]

Deputy Chair

Fritz has a Masters in Business Administration from Stellenbosch University and is the Managing Director of a market leading medical claims and administration company. He has extensive executive oversight experience, and has served as a medical practice manager for numerous years. His experience and expertise in the medical industry and corporate sector, including data analysis and the development of tariff models for the injury on duty and medical aid environments, is invaluable to MediCoop CFI. Fritz has been involved with the MediCoop CFI business opportunity since inception. Fritz is based in the Eastern Cape.

Dr. Michelle Karl (BChD)

Director

Michelle qualified with a degree in dentistry from the University of Pretoria in 2005, where she joined the Intercare Medical and Dental group in 2007 and currently serves as a director of the company. Interests include biological dentistry and facial aesthetics. She has a keen interest to further develop these captivating industries, and contribute in an advisory and strategic capacity towards the MediCoop CFI. Michelle is based Gauteng.

Mr. Tobie Louw (B.Eng, MCP, MCSE, EM Log, MBA)

Director

Tobie is a qualified Industrial Engineer (B.Eng) with a Masters in Supply Chain Management (EM Log) and Business Administration (Executive MBA). He has been involved in the design and start-up of MediCoop CFI. As an entrepreneur from an early age, he founded various companies in the healthcare and tourism sectors. In 2015 he received the Emerging Business Entrepreneur of the Year award from Sanlam and Business Partners. With his vast experience in systems engineering, business development and executive management he is fully committed to growing and expanding the healthcare industry within South Africa throughhrough co-operative principles. Tobie is based in Gauteng.

Dr. Dewald Bester (MBChB)

Director

Dewald obtained his medicine degree from the University of Pretoria and has since worked in various state hospitals across the country including the Wits, Medunsa and Bloemfontein circuits. He specialized in Diagnostic Radiology at The University of the Witwatersrand and is currently a consultant radiologist at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital doing interventional and general radiology. He has been involved in MediCo from its inception, has a vision to merge his medical background with business, and is excited about the possibilities that lie in store for MediCoop. Dewald is based Gauteng.

Mr. Trevor Allnutt (B.Eng, MBA)

Director

Trevor Allnutt is a qualified civil engineer with an MBA from UCT. He has worked extensively in the medical industry profession for 24 years. He is a shareholder and director of a major medical administration company which focuses on the injury on duty market. Furthermore, through his management consulting business, he provides consulting and management services to a large private medical practice and professional medical associations. Trevor is based in the Western Cape.

Mr. Theuns Botha

Managing Director

Theuns Botha is the former Western Cape Provincial Minister of Health; a former leader of the Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape, and also the former Western Cape Provincial Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport.

He was a local Government Councillor for ten years and, for four years, Executive Mayor of the former Langeberg Municipality, now known as the Hessequa Municipality. Since leaving the public service, Theuns has concentrated on farming and business.

Dr. Nkhensane Khosa MBChB(Natal), MBA (UCT)

Director

Nkhensane is a respected medical practitioner and entrepreneur who obtained his medical degree (MBChB) from the University of Kwa Zulu- Natal and an MBA from the University of Cape Town. He has been involved in different organizations within the health care industry, particularly in the province of Limpopo. Among these, Nkhensane was the founding director of Hopewell med, Polokwane’s successful 24 hour medical center and thereafter he joined K&M inc focusing on developing a hospital emergency unit, municipal emergency services in partnership with Netcare and Polokwane Municipality. He is currently the deputy chairperson of Limpopo Independent Practitioner’s Association and he is based in Limpopo.

Dr. Nkateko Munisi (MBChB)

Director

Dr Munisi completed his medical degree at Wits in 1992. He has a family medical practice in the East Rand of Johannesburg, which he founded more than 20 years ago.

Dr Munisi is the treasurer of SAMDP and an executive director of SP Net (a National GP Network). He is also a Director in SAMDP Group Holdings (PTY) LTD and Chairperson for the Bertha Gxowa Hospital board.

Since 2007, Dr Munisi has been acting chairman of the medical panel of the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund (EPPF)

Dr. Sam Tshabangu (MBChB)

Director

Dr Samson Tshabangu qualified as a medical doctor at the Nelson Mandela Medical School and worked in both the private and public sectors in Gauteng. Dr Tshabangu was a founding shareholder of Kwacha Group Holdings, a pioneer for previously disadvantaged South Africans in the healthcare sector by establishing Lesedi Hospital and Sizwe Medical Administrators( where he served as chairman and director for over 10 years). Dr Tshabangu has played an important role in the IPA movement and was founding director of Soweto IPA and SP Net.

He is a founding member of SAMDP and is currently serving in various executive director roles (including a director of SGH and its subsidiary SAMDP networks). Dr Tshabangu has established networks in Francophone West African countries and Nigeria. He served on the board of the Mx Health group and its sister companies as director of Knowledge Objects Healthcare (KOH). He also sits on various BEE company boards with investments in Phumelele Gaming, petroleum companies, MTN and Cell C.

Mr. Jako Calitz (B.Com Math)

Director

Jako matriculated from Framesby High (1999), obtaining his Cape Senior Certificate as well as an overall first position with an aggregate of 103.8% in the Eastern Cape matric examinations. He furthered his studies and graduated with a B.Com (Mathematics) from the University of Stellenbosch during 2003. He is a widely recognised health expert in the medical industry and consults to medical practices and professional medical associations and societies.

Jako has developed vast experience in database interrogation and data mining. He is passionate about health economics, which includes the financing and costing thereof, claim expenditure and historical claim trend analysis, medical claim risk indexes, human resources, sustainable healthcare and public / state health economics.

Mr. Paul van Heerden (B.Com Acc)

Director

Paul is currently the business development manager at a medical practice management company, Compsol. He graduated with a B Comm from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Paul’s has over 12 years executive management experience and has engaged clients across the board, from large corporates to individual customers. His experience includes areas such as the minimising of costs, elimination of unprofitable ventures and structuring internal controls.

Paul is involved in risk identification and mitigation and has successfully completed various major customer and operational negotiations.

Mr. Louis Botha [BAcc Hons, CA(SA)]

Director

Louis obtained his CA(SA) in 2013 after completing his articles at Deloitte & Touche in Johannesburg. He has been involved with MediCoop CFI as a founding member and administrated the registration and licensing process of MediCoop CFI with the CBDA.

Louis’ family is from a medical background and hence he has a keen interest in the industry. Louis was appointed as general manager, treasurer and company secretary of MediCoop CFI at the first annual general meeting and, in line with the constitution, serves on the board in an ex officio capacity.
